The underhood sound of Pontiac's Ram Air V

The unmistakable sound of the Ram Air V's mechanical camshaft. Yes, the foam seal in missing from this GTO's air cleaner. Owner Lance Kramer leaves it off to prevent deformation during storage.

1999 Trans Am WS6 making a pull on the chassis dyno

With an LS6 intake manifold and custom computer tuning the otherwise stock LS1 in our '99 Trans Am put down 288 hp and 293 lb-ft at the rear tires on a Mustang dyno.

Chassis dyno pull of an LS1 with an LS6 intake and stock F-body air lid

In bone stock condition our ’99 Trans Am (with automatic transmission) put down 276 hp and 280 lb-ft at the rear tires on a Mustang dyno. The addition of an LS6 intake manifold (modified by SLP to accept EGR) increased that to 285 hp and 282 lb-ft at the tires. Notice how violently the engine jerks as it momentarily bounces of the rev limiter!

After establishing a baseline of 276 hp and 280 lb-ft at the rear tires from the bone-stock LS1 in our '99 Trans Am, the addition of an LS6 intake manifold, SLP Blackwing air lid, and custom tuning increased that to 293 hp and 301 lb-ft to the rear tires on a Mustang dyno.

1972 LEMANS SPORT 455 HO WITH ORIGINAL EXHAUST 2

Pat Brown's 1972 LeMans Sport idling through its original mufflers. Complete with numbers-matching 455 HO, it's purposely-equipped like a GTO but was intended to be an insurance beater. Listen to its M22 whine as it accelerates away.

Adriatic Blue 1972 Trans Am

This 1972 Trans Am owned by Greg San Marco may be the only one delivered in Adriatic Blue (yes, that's correct, it isn't Lucerne Blue). Just out of restoration at Muscle Car Memories, it's being loaded onto the trailer after our photo shoot. Its 455 H.O. bellows through a reproduction exhaust system from Gardner Exhaust.

1972 Trans Am with Original Exhaust Revving

Exhaust sound with original transverse muffler This 1972 Trans Am has 6,000 original miles and is the only one painted Cardinal Red that model year. It was ordered new by the SCCA Trans-Am series president. A feature article about this car can be found in the May 2012 issue of High Performance Pontiac magazine.

1970 Trans Am Ram Air IV Idling

To Pontiac enthusiasts, few engines sound better than a finely tuned R/A IV at idle. This 1 of 88 R/A IV powered 1970 Trans Ams is undergoing a restoration at Musclecar Memories Restorations in Lincoln, Nebraska. We were asked to calibrate its original carburetor and distributor during the reassembly process. Its numbers matching engine exhales through a transverse-mounted Flowmaster crossflow muffler.
